Ms. Zena Tunnell is a Special Education Teacher at Stephen Decatur High School. She has been teaching for 15 years. She graduated from Salisbury University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Math, Grades 6-8. She received a master's degree in Special Education from Wilmington University and, additionally, has earned 30+ credits in master level reading courses. “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I originally wanted to be a middle school math teacher, but during my student teaching, Maureen Capelli, a special education teacher, observed me in the classroom, and told me I had a special gift because not everyone has the patience to work with struggling learners. I took the special education praxis and that same year I was offered a position at Stephen Decatur High School. My advice to students would be to set goals for what you want and be ready to take the necessary steps to get yourself there!”

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Master of Education in School Leadership. ”My family is my inspiration for becoming an educator. As a third-generation educator, I have spent the majority of my life looking up to those I love the most. Chase every opportunity to improve yourself, connect with those who share common goals, and speak your truth, even if your voice shakes.”

Last night the Decatur Seahawks flew to Snow Hill to scrimmage with our Eagles. It's all about pushing each other to be the best versions of ourselves, sharpening our skills, and strategizing for victory. 🏆 Plus, what better way to elevate our game than by learning from those we've been battling against all season long? 🚀 This is what sportsmanship is all about, folks – setting aside rivalries and coming together as athletes, competitors, and friends to elevate the game we love. 🏀💪 Let's go! #WeareWorcester #Helpabrotherout #PlayoffTime

Mr. Rodney Lee earned his undergraduate degree from Hampton University and his graduate degree from UMES. His most recent accomplishment is earning National Board Certification. In the words of Mr. Lee: “I tried to resist becoming an educator, I come from a long line of educators. My sister is the first female and Afro-American principal of Snow Hill High School, and my great uncle served as sole French teacher in my hometown of Williamston, NC for over 20 years. I truly believe that education and teaching is a major part of my calling.” Words of Advice: Focus on your character and your gift. Use both to spread love in a world full of hate.
