Good evening, WCPS families. This is Superintendent of Schools Lou Taylor, and I have written an open letter to our community this week correcting some misinformation about our school system. I hope you will take a moment to visit our website, www.worcesterk12.org, to read it. Thank you.

Elle Nichols received the Ripley’s Believe It or Not student of the month for September. She always works hard in class and is willing to help others. Way to go Elle! Keep up the great work!

Attention WCPS families: If your family received Maryland SUN Bucks over the summer, be sure to use them before they expire on October 30. For more information or to check your SUN Bucks balance, visit https://dhs.maryland.gov/sunbucks/.

Third Grader readers sort details under different headings. The book was teaching them about the sunlight's importance to the ocean.

Students in Mrs.Lovell's enrichment class made images using Canva Magic AI that helped them visualize the characters, setting, and plot of a story that they are writing. Students added the photos to a Freeform board to gather their ideas.

Students in Mrs. Lovell's class participated in a "graffiti wall" project to make a poster that showed their learning about the circulatory system and figurative language.

Students in Mrs. McDowell's 4th grade class did a scavenger hunt through books to find examples of the rules of capitalization that they learned about in class.

Students in Mrs. Lovell's class created a model of the eye and learned how the pupil and retina work together to help people see images!

Fourth graders loved visiting the mobile STEM lab!

Ms. Rankin's students worked in groups to create and present a community with different types of homes, a business and a place to play.

Students in Mrs. Bleinberger's class are working on their reading fluency while also learning about changes in fall! Through using different text features, they are able to ask and answer questions about each text they read!

A huge thank you to Angie DiMarco from the Ocean Pines branch of the Worcester County Library for joining us at our Literacy night! We love this partnership!

Unity Day is tomorrow, October 16! Join WCPS as we wear orange to show our support of bullying prevention. Bullying can be prevented, through sharing kindness, promoting acceptance, and encouraging inclusion. Learn what you can do at https://www.pacer.org/bullying/ #WeAreWorcester #UnityEveryDay

Sorting facts to determine the Main Idea of the book Ocean Sunlight: How Tiny Plants Feed the Seas.

Reading in different spots.

Pre-K 3 had a wonderful visit from the Rotary Club! They are amazing and brought us yummy snacks for those "oops" days when someone forgets! We really enjoyed our chips, salsa, and nacho cheese!

1st graders working together to answer questions on a book

Students in Mrs. Kolasa's class worked together to build with blocks in a getting to know each other activity. They shared about themselves as they added each block to the middle of the rug.

Students in Mrs. McDowell's 4th grade class are learning about how light can affect their pupils.

Fourth graders got to know each other during their first day of reading intervention by taking pictures of classmates who shared the same traits as themselves.
